Attention Animal Lovers
Although this site is not geared toward cats and dogs, I know many of you love and own them.Some of you likely saw the recent Oprah show about puppy mills, which was absolutely heartbreaking. I'm writing this to pass on the message to others and hopefully help to save a few animals.
Over 1 million cats and dogs are euthanized every year due to overcrowded shelters. 1 million! What can we do to solve this problem?
Please, do not buy cats or dogs from pet stores. Most are 'farmed' animals, and even with reptiles many are wild caught, farmed, or imported illegally.
Find a reputable breeder or look in shelters as an alternative.
Have your dogs and cats spayed/neutered.
Consider adopting older animals.
I recently adopted an older cat who had been passed around from home to home. She is an amazing animal and I don't mind having missed the cute kitten stage at all!
Pets are a lifetime commitment. Too many pets are put in shelters because they become too much trouble, or are not cute anymore. Be a responsible pet owner and be sure you are prepared to care for each animal throughout its' lifetime. (I know it can be unavoidable sometimes. Find those pets good homes!)
Don't give animals as gifts unless you are certain it is wanted and will be cared for properly. Many gifted animals are sent to shelters soon after holidays.
Make a donation to a no-kill shelter (or any shelter) in your area.

Summer Tips:
- Summer is an excellent time to order
UVB Lights.
Buy either Exoterra 8, ReptiSun 5, or ReptiSun Iguana Light - these provide adequate UV for your
lizards as compared to other brands.
These lights will last up to 12 months, so when the UV potency starts to wane, it will again be summer. Then while you wait next year for your replacement bulb, you will be able to bring your lizards outside for natural UV light. - Double check your temps! It is very important to use a digital thermometer to get an accurate
reading.
As the ambient temps in your home change with summer heat or winter cold, be sure to adjust cage temperatures as needed. - Provide water, baths and misting regularly to keep your pets cool and hydrated.
- Most lizards will love a summer fruit treat. Seasonal favorites include blueberries, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and starfruit. Watermelon makes a great hydrating treat too!
- If you take your pets outside, remember to provide water and shade.
